At no more than 1/2 inch long, the smokeybrown cockroach is considered one of the smaller cockroaches. It is generally dark brown in color.

These pests are primarily outdoor dwellers and, while they will eat just about anything, they usually feed on plant material. They are far more common in the southeastern United States, where temperatures are warmer, and they tend to be a mostly stationary insect.

Females produce up to seven egg capsules, each containing about 20 eggs. They reach maturity in 320 days and adults generally live about 200 days.

Smokeybrown cockroaches are able to fly and are known for being attracted to lights at night.
